Food Safety & Quality Policy

Last updated: May 2025

Nouriva is committed to maintaining the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and quality in every meal we serve. As a fast-food brand operating in Kakuma and Kalobeyei, our mission goes beyond convenience — we are dedicated to ensuring that every order meets both health standards and community expectations.

1. Regulatory Compliance

We comply with local and national health regulations as established by the Ministry of Health, Turkana County Public Health Office, and any applicable food handling guidelines in refugee and host communities.

2. Certified Food Handlers

All kitchen staff are trained and certified in food handling practices. This includes hygiene protocols, cross-contamination prevention, and emergency response to foodborne illness risks.

3. Ingredient Sourcing & Traceability

We source fresh ingredients daily from trusted suppliers. Each batch is logged to ensure traceability and accountability in the event of any quality or safety concerns.

Suppliers are required to follow proper hygiene and storage practices and are periodically reviewed by our team.

4. Clean Kitchen Protocols

Our food is prepared in sanitized kitchens with clearly designated zones for raw, cooked, and packaged items. Equipment is cleaned between each shift and work surfaces are sanitized regularly.

  • Separate utensils for raw vs. cooked food
  • Mandatory handwashing before each task
  • Protective gear: gloves, hairnets, aprons

5. Allergen Awareness

While we do our best to avoid cross-contamination, some of our meals may contain or come in contact with allergens such as wheat, eggs, milk, peanuts, or fish. Customers with severe allergies are advised to reach out before placing an order.

6. Delivery Hygiene Standards

Our delivery riders are trained to transport meals safely in insulated food carriers. Riders do not open containers after pickup and are required to sanitize hands and wear masks during hand-off.

7. Quality Monitoring

Quality checks are done before meals are packed and sent out. We assess portion accuracy, packaging integrity, and food presentation.

8. Customer Feedback & Incident Response

If you receive food that is spoiled, undercooked, or compromised in any way, contact us immediately via the app or at safety@nouriva.food.

We investigate each report thoroughly and may offer refunds, credit, or replacement depending on the severity and cause.

9. Internal Audits & Continuous Improvement

We perform regular internal audits to assess adherence to our safety and quality policies. Staff receive periodic refresher training, and our team is constantly reviewing new ways to improve.
